Proposal of Government of Sri Lanka to establish/strengthen Pharma Sector

Subject: Proposal of Government of Sri Lanka to establish/strengthen Pharma Sector.

We would like to inform the member companies that Pharmexcil received a communication from High Commission of India in Sri Lanka inviting Pharmaceutical companies to explore the possibilities of setting up manufacturing facilities in Special Economic Zone at Sri Lanka. The Government is ready to offer special incentives.

Members may be kindly aware, Sri Lanka is our important trade partner and India exported Pharmaceuticals worth Rs.1342 crore (USD 205 mn) during the year 2015-16. Pharmexcil also lead a delegation to Sri Lanka earlier and during that time, members have explored the possibilities of setting up manufacturing plants in Special Economic Zone in Sri Lanka.

In this context, our Mission in Sri Lanka is playing active role and requested Council to mount a delegation to Sri Lanka immediately during June/July 2016. It is also informed that Trade Minister of Sri Lanka is likely to visit India during the month of July 2016.

Member companies interested in establishing manufacturing facility in API/Formulations may inform their interest in joining the subject delegation may kindly send their confirmation to dgdesk@pharmexcil.com.We would be communicating on the proposed dates and other details of travel in our next circular.

Members may take note that MDA is not available for this delegation.
