Sub: Bar Code implementation on Mono Carton for Export Purpose - Deferred.

Members are aware that Council had been taking up with the Department of Commerce, Government of India about difficulties faced by the members in implementation of barcoding on several occasions.

We would like to inform the members that in view of the presentations by the Council as also by members, implementation of barcoding on Primary Level packing for export purpose has been kept under suspension till further notification vide 1st cited reference.  However, in the same notification, mono carton is classified as secondary pack, as per GS1 consultations with industry. 

By classifying mono carton as Secondary Pack, industry had to implement barcoding on mono cartons also with immediate effect as per above notification. Council again represented to the Government requesting for sufficient time for industry for implementation of barcoding on mono cartons.

Accordingly, Government of India issued a notification as per 2nd cited reference postponing the implementation of bar code on mono carton till 1st April 2015.  Copy of the notification is given below for reference of members.
