Meeting Highlights:

  • Trade negotiations with 16 Asian Countries.
  • A rare opportunity for Industry to protect their products against low priced imports and promote their strong products for exports.

Our members are aware of the fact that the bilateral and regional trade agreements are increasingly becoming important in determining the way international trade is happening. Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) between the countries are very important as they facilitate easy and fair & free conduction of trade between the countries. Members may be aware of the initiatives taken by the Government of India in entering into Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) involving several concessions allowed by individual countries towards imports and exports of various commodities depending upon the strengths of individual country.

Some of such trade agreements concluded by India include (a) India - ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (IAFTA), (b) India - Malaysia Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (IMCECA), (c) India - Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IKCEPA) among others. India is currently vigorously negotiating for early finalization of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) with 10(ten) countries of ASEAN Plus Australia, China, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand. Several rounds of discussion have already taken place amongst the governments of these Countries.

In view of the importance of these Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), Department of Commerce, Government of India proposes to engage the Pharma Industry to provide wide market access opportunities to bring down the costs of inputs and the production costs to increase its competitiveness in these markets.
